Lab (Gene X-pert testing) In-charge

JOB SPECIFICATION:

•Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized institution

•A Diploma or Certification in IT/computer skills is an added advantage

•Candidates with FSC in Medical Laboratory Technology may also be considered if they have the required experience, competencies, and skills.

•The candidate must have basic knowledge and experience of working in a clinical /microbiology laboratory

•Minimum (01) one-year experience of working in clinical /microbiology laboratory.

•Possession of computer skills and knowledge of data systems will be of additional value

•Knowledge about bio-safety and infection control practices in a TB laboratory is desired

•Must have good command of MS-Office especially, Power Point and MS-Excel

•Excellent communication (verbal/written), strong managerial and leadership skills

•Proven track record of team work

•Strong administrative skills and ability to pay attention to details

•Supportive and productive.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Test clinical specimens of patients referred for TB diagnosis using Gene Xpert machine

•Accurate, complete and timely reporting of results as well as to maintain and update the database/records of all the tests as per the timelines and SOPs/guidelines on standard recording tools and in the electronic database.

•Report Rifampicin resistant cases with immediate effect and by the fastest means possible to the referring health facility/linked PMDT sites and inform the MDR focal person.

•Coordinate closely with the referral-health facility/ linked PMDT site and District TB control officer to ensure enrollment of all diagnosed cases.

•Maintain Gene Xpert equipment and perform calibration as per users’ manual/ instruction provided.

•Follow instructions for trouble shooting of minor errors/ faults in the Xpert machine. Immediately report technical issues to the Regional Coordinator

•Monitor the stock status of cartridges and timely generate a demand for cartridges to avert expiries/ stock outs.

•Give clear instructions to the patients for obtaining good quality sputum

•Ensure uninterrupted provision of services and supplies

•Any other task assigned by the supervisor
