James (Jim) Malster is an international health and development professional with over twenty-five years of experience in program design, implementation, evaluation, capacity building and mentoring, strategic planning, and programmatic and financial management. He holds a Master of Public Affairs in Development Studies from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs (2001), a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of Colorado, Boulder (1990), and a Certificate from the Institute of Political Studies and Faculty of Letters at Université de Bordeaux III, France (1989). His extensive educational background and professional expertise continue to contribute significantly to his impactful work in the field of international health and development.

Since 2001, Jim has worked for Population Services International (PSI), a US-based non-profit global health organization that operates in over 45 countries worldwide with programs in family planning and reproductive health, child survival, malaria, maternal and child health, HIV, water and sanitation, and non-communicable diseases. PSI strives to improve the health and well-being of people around the world, making it easier for them to lead healthier lives and plan the families they desire. 

During his more than 20 years with PSI, Jim has held numerous positions across the globe and at PSI headquarters, including Deputy Regional Director for West and Central Africa, Country Representative positions in Senegal, Pakistan, Côte d’Ivoire, and Benin, and Program Manager for Latin America. Jim is currently the Chief of Party of the Promoting Healthy Behaviors Activity, USAID’s flagship social and behavior change project in Cambodia that works in partnership with the Cambodian government and local organizations to improve health behaviors across a variety of health areas including family planning, tuberculosis, water and sanitation, malaria, maternal and child health, nutrition, and non-communicable diseases. 

Prior to joining PSI, Jim served as a Foreign Service Officer at the United States Information Agency in Washington, DC, and at the US Embassy in La Paz, Bolivia. Before joining the foreign service, Jim was a program manager at the Boston University School of Public Health’s Center for International Health.
